According to the University of Virginia’s president, a shooting at a parking garage left three individuals dead and two more injured. On Monday, authorities searched for a student who was a suspect. President Jim Ryan wrote a message to the university’s student body that was shared on social media and said that the shooting that happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday “resulted in three fatalities; two more victims were injured and are undergoing medical care.”

On Sunday night, the university’s emergency management department sent out a warning to the campus community about an “active attacker firearm.” Following a report of shots fired on Culbreth Road, which is located on the northern edge of campus, the warning advised students to take cover in place. Monday’s classes were postponed.

The UVA Police Department said online that the state police and other law enforcement agencies were looking for a suspect who was “armed and dangerous.” The suspect, whom Ryan claimed to be a student, is still at large, according to his letter.
Ryan wrote, “I am heartbroken that this violence has visited the University of Virginia. This is a message every leader hopes never to have to communicate.” “Everyone in our community is affected by this horrific tragedy.” The emergency alert was actually issued Sunday night, as was later clarified in the story.
