A Student from Baltimore Was Killed and Four People Were Injured in a Shooting at Edmondson Village Shopping Center

According to authorities, a Baltimore City Public Schools student was murdered and four others were injured after two suspects opened fire in the parking lot of the Edmondson Village Shopping Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The students attend Edmondson Westside High School, located directly across the street from the shooting location. “There is nothing nice about another afternoon in our City where a young life has been sacrificed over nothing, absurdity, or ignorance,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott stated.

“What we should ask is that everyone pray for that family, the families of the victims, and the other young guys battling for their lives.” Edmondson-Westside High School postponed classes for Thursday in the hours following the tragedy.

According to school officials, teachers would still have to report to work by 9 a.m. According to school district authorities, the high school was placed on lockdown following the incident, but pupils were discharged on time. All after-school and sports programs at Edmondson Westside have been canceled.

According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, the students were in front of the Ritas and Popeyes when two suspects opened fire and then fled behind the building. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott stated that one of his top priorities is for the city to invest in the Edmondson Village Shopping Center, which has been a crime hotspot. The biggest issue, according to Scott, is that the shopping center’s owner “doesn’t seem to care” about investing in the facility.

“The Edmondson Village Shopping Center has been a hotspot for as long as I can remember,” Scott stated. “This is what we mean when we talk about ownership that cares and invests. This community is deserving of better. It deserves better than a shopping center that appears uninterested in it from an investment aspect.”

Scott also stated that the Popeyes restaurant in the Edmondson Village Shopping Center has previously been fined for selling to students and juveniles during the school day. Community residents protested with Councilman Kristerfer Burnett after police responded to the shooting, upset that nothing was done to address the criminality at the shopping center.

According to school authorities, students and employees may come to the school on Thursday for counseling and support. Services will be available in the library, auditorium, wellness room, advice suite, and Westside Skill Center Guidance Suite beginning at 11:30 a.m., according to school officials.
