ABC News Producer Dax Tejera Dies from Sudden Heart Attack at 37

Dax Tejera, an ABC News producer, passed away on Friday due to an unexpected heart attack at the age of 37. Since the year 2020, Tejera has served in the capacity of executive producer for the Sunday morning political affairs show This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

The news of Tejera’s passing was communicated to network employees via a message issued by ABC News president Kim Godwin on the evening of Christmas Eve, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. The following is an excerpt from the memo.

It is with a heavy heart and tremendous regret that we relay the news that our friend and colleague, Dax Tejera, passed away unexpectedly last night as a result of a heart attack. He was just 42 years old. Every Sunday morning, Dax’s enthusiasm, passion, and love for “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” ABC News, and you shone through in his role as Executive Producer of the show. This undying affection was shown to his cherished daughters as well.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Veronica, and the two young girls that the couple shares, as well as the rest of the Tejera family. Later, on Saturday’s episode of World News Tonight, host Rachel Scott of ABC News shared the news that Tejera had passed away.

After the news broke that Tejera had passed away unexpectedly, his coworkers at ABC News were quick to pay their respects. “Sad day for ABC. An untimely death at the age of 37 has befallen a close acquaintance who was an executive at ABC. On Twitter, senior national journalist Jim Avila remarked, “Dax Tejera, my friend, I only have kind thoughts,” and he meant it.

“This has been such a difficult day for all of us here at @abcnews,” According to John Quinones, a correspondent for the station, “Dax Tejera was not just the most intelligent and caring executive producer I’ve ever worked with, but he was also a great friend.”

According to Tejara’s profile on LinkedIn, he was a producer at NBC Universal beginning in the year 2010, where he worked from 2007 to 2013. After serving as an executive producer on America with Jorge Ramos for the previous four years at Fusion Media Network, he moved to ABC News in 2017 to take up a position as a senior producer there. Veronica, Tejera’s wife, and their two small girls are the only people who will remember him after his passing.
