After Husband Matt Buschmann Gives Away Aaron Judge’s 61st Home Run Ball, Sara Walsh Makes a ‘divorce’ Joke

On Wednesday night, fans in Toronto missed out on catching Aaron Judge’s 61st home run ball, but Blue Jays bullpen coach Matt Buschman did. Buschmann delivered the ball to New York Yankees employees rather than selling it, much to the annoyance of his wife, Fox NFL reporter Sara Walsh.

After husband Matt Buschmann gives away Aaron Judge’s 61st home run ball, Sara Walsh makes a ‘divorce’ joke. Judge homered off Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza to tie Roger Maris’ single-season record in the American League. The ball avoided the grip of a few front-row supporters and landed in the Jays’ bullpen.

That’s when Buschmann came across the precious memento. Walsh joked about being able to retire when she initially learned Buschmann had the ball in his hands. “The bad news is that I’m in Florida fighting a hurricane, but the good news is that I can announce my retirement…” Walsh used Twitter.

Walsh soon discovered that Buschmann had thrown the ball away, and she joked about the two perhaps splitting up. “Oh cool,” Walsh said on Twitter. “He just handed it back without even checking to see if our house was still standing. I’d prefer to proceed to announce our divorce.”

Buschmann missed out on a significant payday in the sports memorabilia market since it was the final game of the season between the Blue Jays and the Yankees. Judge currently has six games left to break Maris’ home run record with home run No. 62. This weekend, the team will play a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.

A Blue Jays fan was inches away from snagging the ball, but it ended up in the Blue Jays bullpen. And there was Buschmann to the rescue, snatching the baseball and ensuring its safety. Walsh poked fun at Buschmann’s altruism by stating she’s seeking a divorce.

Judge’s home run came in the seventh inning, giving the Yankees a 5-3 lead. They added three more runs and won the series 8-3, only one day after winning the AL East division title for the first time since 2019. Maris established the MLB single-season home run record in 1961, which he held for nearly three decades until Mark McGwire, then of the St. Louis Cardinals, broke it in 1998. Bond broke the record three years later with 73 home runs for the San Francisco Giants.

To say the least, Judge’s season has been career-changing. He turned down a massive offer from the Yankees worth more than $200 million during the offseason, and the four-time All-Star is sure to make substantially more than what the franchise offered. Judge and the Yankees, who improved to 96-59 with Wednesday’s win over the Blue Jays, will join the AL Central champion Houston Astros in the American League Division Series.
