An accident that involved injuries and an overturned tractor-trailer forced the closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 880 in Oakland early Friday morning, causing traffic backups on the Nimitz Freeway. The accident was originally reported at approximately two in the morning on the northbound side of Interstate 880 in Oakland at Fruitvale Avenue, which is located just north of High Street.

The overturned large truck and two other vehicles were involved in the incident that resulted in injuries, and it caused the California Highway Patrol to issue a severe traffic alert. The huge rig that was carrying a trailer was involved in a collision with a black Infinity, which caused it to flip across all lanes of traffic, as the CHP was able to confirm later.

The driver of the black Infiniti stated that at the time of the collision with the large truck, they had exited their vehicle in order to check on their tire. Both drivers came away with some scratches and bruises. According to the authorities, the freeway’s northbound lanes were closed near High Street and traffic was rerouted.

Despite the fact that employees had been successful in righting the large truck, as of six in the morning, all lanes remained blocked. Despite the accident, tractor-trailer combinations can continue to use the westbound lanes of Interstate 580 in Oakland until further notice.

Shortly after 6:30 in the morning, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced that the crash had been cleared and that all lanes had reopened. Drivers are advised to brace themselves for more delays and to seek out alternative routes if they wish to avoid the area.
