Early Life

Ashton Kutcher was born on February 7, 1978, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He went to the University of Iowa to study biochemical engineering, but he dropped out to move to New York City and become a model. He soon became successful in photoshoots and on the runway for Calvin Klein. He has a twin brother named Michael who was born with cerebral palsy.

But he wanted to be an actor more than he wanted to be a fashion model, so he changed careers again and moved to Los Angeles to try acting. He got the role of Kelso on the popular FOX sitcom That 70’s Show because of an audition that went well. This was the role that made him a star.

Acting Career

He became a sought-after comic star in Hollywood thanks to his work on That 70’s Show. As part of the cast of that series, he appeared in 2000 in Dude, Where’s My Car with Sean William Scott, in 2003 in Just Married with Britt Murphy, and in 2005 in the remake of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner called Guess Who. Another studio comedy remake: Cheaper by the Dozen, and he also tried his hand at more serious roles in 2004’s The Butterfly Effect, a sci-fi time travel drama. This was a time of transition for him.

With the MTV original series, Punk’d, which aired in 2003, Kutcher made his first major mark on pop culture. He went on to work as an executive producer on several other MTV reality shows, including Beauty and the Geek, Adventures in Hollywood, The Real Wedding Crashers, and a game show called Opportunity Knocks, all of which featured him pulling off elaborate hidden camera pranks on his celebrity friends.

Due to conflicting commitments with his role in the action movie The Guardian, Ashton Kutcher was only able to appear on the final season of That 70s Show as a “special guest star” in 2006. In Killers (2010), he played an assassin in an action comedy that he also produced and returned to the big screen the following year. Upon Charlie Sheen’s surprise departure from Two and a Half Men the next year, the show’s producers cast him to fill in for him. Despite the show’s popularity, Kutcher walked away with a sizable paycheck from this role.

Ashley Ellerin, with whom Kutcher had an on-and-off romance in 2001, was fatally assassinated in 2019, and Kutcher was called to testify against one Michael Gargiulo who was accused of her murder.

Quote on Business

“If you want to be an entrepreneur just like someone else, you’re looking in the wrong place. You don’t look outside for ideas; you look inside. You need to ask yourself, “How can I solve the problem I’m trying to solve for my company better today?” No one should try to be like me, that’s for sure. Just be like you.”
