Avril Ramona Lavigne ( born September 27, 1984) is a Canadian musician. She secured a two-album contract with Arista Records when she was just 16 years old. Let Go (2002), her first studio album, is the best-selling record by a Canadian artist in the 21st century.

She became known as the “Pop Punk Queen” thanks to the success of the album’s tracks, particularly “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi,” which reinforced her skate punk identity. They tied the knot on Canada Day, July 1, 2013, at the Château de la Napoule, a rebuilt medieval castle on the Mediterranean in the South of France. Lavigne and Kroeger separated and later divorced after she made the announcement on her official Instagram account on September 2, 2015.

In 2018, Lavigne started dating Phillip Sarofim, a billionaire. He was the subject of her 2019 breakup.   As of 2020, she was dating musician Pete Jonas, according to People magazine.  By March 2021, she started dating Mod Sun.  In April of 2022, Lavigne took to her social media to share the happy news.  However, it was revealed on February 21, 2023, that they decided to end their engagement and split up.

When Canadian artist Shania Twain was touring the United States in 1999, she invited Avril Lavigne onstage alongside her at the Corel Centre in Ottawa to play for a crowd of twenty thousand.  When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, Lavigne told Twain, “a renowned singer,” and the two then proceeded to sing “What Made You Say That” by Twain.

 Lavigne was discovered by local folksinger Stephen Medd while performing with the Lennox Community Theatre. She sang backing vocals for his song “Touch the Sky” on his Quinte Spirit album from 1999.
