Early Life

Ada, Oklahoma was the place of Blake Tollison Shelton’s birth on June 18, 1976. His parents, Dorothy and Richard Shelton owned a beauty salon and sold used cars, respectively. Even as a child, he enjoyed singing, and, with the help of his uncle, he learned to play the guitar at the age of 12. By the time he was 15, Shelton had already penned his first song. He received the Oklahoma Denbo Diamond Award when he was 16 years old. After moving to Nashville at the age of 17 to pursue his singing career, Shelton has never looked back.

Music Career

In 2001, after living in Nashville for about six years, he signed a recording deal with Giant Records. For five weeks, Blake’s first single, “Austin,” was the top country song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. As a result, Shelton was transferred to Warner Bros. Records shortly after the closure of Giant Records. Their debut album, titled simply “Shelton,” was met with critical acclaim and was certified platinum. In February 2003, Shelton released his second album, “The Dreamer.” The album’s lead single, “The Baby,” debuted at the top of the charts. With his third studio album, which came out in 2004, Shelton became the first country singer to achieve platinum status.

The following albums were released: “Pure BS” (2007), “Startin’ Fires” (2008), “Red River Blue” (2011), “Cheers It’s Christmas” (2012), “Based on a True Story” (2013), “Bringing Back the Sunshine” (2014), “If I’m Honest” (2016), and 2017’s “Texoma Shore” and he has headlined nine major tours. In addition to “The Baby,” “Home,” “Some Beach,” “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” “Hillbilly Bone,” “All About Tonight,” “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking?”, “Honey Bee” and “God Gave Me You,” Shelton has also had several other top-ten hits, such as “Honey Bee,” “God Gave Me You,” “Drink on It,” “Over,” “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” “Boys ‘Round Here.” (featuring Pistol Annies and friends).
