After pleading guilty In the case of the Chula Vista park shooting, to manslaughter charges, two men were given six years in state prison today for their roles in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy at a Chula Vista park the year prior.
Caleb Beasley was discovered shot to death at a park in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista on March 11, 2021. Deonte Martinez, 24, and Larry Bradford, 19, were arrested in connection with the murder.
The prosecution claims both defendants entered guilty pleas in August for voluntary manslaughter with a pistol.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested and taken to jail in connection with the incident. Monday, prosecutors declined to elaborate on the status of his case.
The Chula Vista Police Department responded at about 7:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the area of Sunset View Park. The victim was discovered lying still on the ground from his wounds.
After being transported to the hospital by emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
At the time, Lieutenant Dan Peak of the Chula Vista Police Department stated, “The investigation has revealed that the victim traveled to the park previous to the shooting with many associates.” At some point during their time in the park, a brawl erupted amongst many members of the group (s). Following the heated dispute, two assailants opened fire on the victim.

On March 22, 2021, Bradford and the teen were detained in a Spring Valley residence.
Three days later, on Sunday, Martinez surrendered himself to authorities in Chula Vista.
