Northwest Ohio experienced power disruptions this afternoon due to strong winds. According to Toledo Edison’s outage map, more than 1,000 customers in Williams County were without power as of 8:15 p.m., including approximately 75% of West Unity. At the time, Fulton, Wood, and Lucas Counties each had more than 1,000 consumers without electricity.
When the wind gusts exceed 35 mph, according to Chris Eck with Toledo Edison, personnel cannot work in a lift truck or from a ladder. We’re repairing wind damage as swiftly and safely as we can, Eck added. However, as the wind blows more, we might notice greater damage from fallen trees and branches.
At a Bowling Green power substation, the wind also harmed the roof. For a portion of Saturday night, there was no power in a certain area of the city. For the severe winds on Saturday, 13abc’s First Alert meteorologists announced a First Alert Weather Day. Additional disruptions could happen since gusts of 50 to 55 mph are anticipated to last until 9:00 PM.
Up to 9:00 PM, the whole region of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan is under a wind advisory. Toledo Edison has been contacted by 13abc for more details on restoration and more crews for northwest Ohio. At Side Cut Metropark, a tree branch hit a car after being knocked over by the wind. According to a Metroparks representative, nobody was wounded.
