Early Life
Dan Bilzerian was born in Tampa Bay, Florida on December 7, 1980. Dan’s father, Paul Bilzerian, was a notable private equity/corporate takeover specialist in the 1980s. Dan is of Armenian descent through his father. By the time Paul Bilzerian was 36 years old, he had already amassed a self-made $40 million fortune. Unfortunately, in 1988 Paul was indicted for tax and security fraud.
Dan was eight years old at the time. The older Bilzerian declared bankruptcy in 2001 citing just $15,000 in assets and more than $140 million worth of debt. Dan’s mother is named Terri Steffen. Dan has a brother named Adam who is a fellow poker player. In its heyday, the family resided in the largest home in Tampa, a 28,000-square-foot mansion with 10 bedrooms.
This residence was foreclosed on in 2016 when Paul went to the Caribbean to evade arrest. Before their father was charged, he reportedly set up trust funds for both Dan and Adam. It’s unclear how much of these assets have contributed to Dan’s present-day affluent lifestyle or whether any of those funds were potentially ill-gotten in Paul’s suspected tax and security scams.
Dan Bilzerian’s Early Career
In 1999, Dan enlisted in the Navy and has served ever since. Following his SEAL training in 2000, Bilzerian was expelled from the program just weeks before graduation due to an argument with one of his administrators. The dispute stemmed from a safety violation at the shooting range. Dan enrolled in the University of Florida after his discharge from the Navy and studied Criminology and Business.
Rich people who flex their wealth have WAY less than the super rich people who never flex. If you see someone showing off their money, pity for them trying to reach the top of a pyramid they’ll never reach.

Poker Career
Dan began playing poker professionally in 2009 when he was 29 years old. At the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event, he finished in 180th position. In the end, this was his most successful official poker tournament. He walked away with $36,000 in winnings. Currently, Dan is well-known for his skill as a poker player. Even though his official career victories at sanctioned events are modest, he claims to have won millions, if not tens of millions, of dollars in private tournaments and other unofficial settings.
After Bradley Ruderman was sentenced to prison in 2011, Dan and eleven other celebrities were requested to pay back their earnings from Ruderman’s Ponzi scam. To help Ruderman’s victims who had been victimized by his criminal career, they were asked to return the money they had stolen. That same year, Dan spoke out in support of Alex Rodriguez, who had been accused of engaging in unethical gambling practices.
Dan is said to have walked away with $12.8 million in one of the most storied sporting events of all time. Only $5,000 to $10,000 was staked in a single heads-up no-limit hold ’em game. After he won, he promptly flew to Mexico in a private plane to enjoy himself. It’s claimed that he won $50 million in poker that year alone. At least three times, he has lost more than $3 million. Bliss Magazine dubbed him “The Funniest Poker Player on Twitter” and co-founded Victory Poker with him.

Legal Issues
Litigation ensued, with Bilzerian alleging that his $1 million loans to the production business were in exchange for only 8 minutes of screen time and 80 words of conversation. In the end, his screen time was reduced to about a minute, with only a single line of conversation. In his case, he demanded $1.2 million, which was the sum of the loan amount plus 20%. However, due to the film’s success and Dan’s media attention, it was eventually dropped and Dan ended up making $1.5 million on his investment.
Vanessa Castano was kicked in the face by Dan during an altercation at a Miami nightclub in August 2014. Dan said that Vanessa and another woman had beaten up his girlfriend. Dan was sued by Castano for 1 million dollars in damages for her injuries.
At some point after that year, Dan became embroiled with pornographic actress Janice Griffith in a legal battle. As part of a photo shoot for Hustler, he allegedly hurled her off a roof and into a swimming pool. However, she suffered a broken foot as a result of her miscalculation and subsequent collision with the pool’s edge. She requested $85,000 from Bilzerian, but he turned her down. Griffith then sued both Hustler and Bilzerian for damages.
Bilzerian was arrested at LAX Airport in December on suspicion of bomb-making. The allegations against him were withdrawn, and he was freed the very next morning. “Negligently failing to extinguish a fire in the open” was the charge against Dan in February 2015. He was sentenced to pay $17, 231.
