KENTWOOD, Michigan — The new Dave & Buster’s has a lot to offer.
Located at 3660 28th St. SE, across from Centerpointe Mall, this is the chain’s first West Michigan outpost, and it’s the first to offer a restaurant, bar, and arcade all under one roof. Previously, this space housed a Barnes & Noble bookstore.
Below is a helpful guide with information from Randy Kerney, the general manager of the Kentwood facility, for anyone interested in playing competitive Mario Kart while drinking margaritas and munching on loaded tater tots.
Starting on Monday, May 18 at 11 a.m., the doors will officially open to the public. Two other locations, in Livonia and Utica, Michigan, round up the 75th location for the Dallas, Texas-based chain.

West Michiganders aren’t afraid to wait in line for things like Black Friday deals, beer, or tickets to travel somewhere and drink beer, so be prepared to wait if you go on the first day of business. Dave & Buster’s “hired aggressively to have the employees on hand to support what we expect to be a doorbuster open,” said Kerney, who has been with the firm for 11 years. At a recent store opening in Albuquerque, N.M., the line to enter “extended around the building. ” If you end up being first through the door, expect “something extraordinary.”
If you’re under 18, you should bring a parent or an adult chaperone. Dave & Buster’s aims to please a wide range of customers, yet as a bar, it must enforce the legal drinking age of 21. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian or an adult (25+) with them at all times. On Fridays and Saturdays, everyone under the age of 21 must leave the premises by 11 p.m. Members of the front desk will request identification from anybody who appears to be under the age of 30. Kerney added, “Some people say we’re adult-only, but we’re adult-oriented.”

It’s more important to eat than to play. Or vice versa: “Our facility does not resemble a restaurant as much as it resembles a mall,” said Kerney, who estimated the total square footage at around 30,000. A lot of people and things are happening at once. So, don’t hold up the service by playing games at the server’s table, and keep the kids under control. The employees will clear your forgotten belongings and “keep it with us to make sure it’s safe,” such as a purse or coat if you leave them unattended.
During the week, you can get the greatest prices: The chain has discounted game prices in half on Wednesdays. Three game chips cost $1, but buying in bulk is more cost-effective, as Kerney pointed out. The “Eat & Play Combo” at this restaurant starts at $17 and features an entrée and $10 in gaming credit. Friday and Saturday evenings are excluded because “we built it to drive business away from those hours,” Kerney explained.
The site boasts “games you can’t play anyplace else,” including the following. To the Kentwood, There are 95 different games to choose from at Dave & Buster’s, and several of them support simultaneous play. Some give out tickets that can be exchanged for rewards. Some are meant to be humorous, while others are merely exploratory. Dave & Busters, according to Kerney, collaborates with arcade game developers to create games that are either a spin on a widely available title or are created “from the ground up” for the chain. There are currently 10–15 games on my floor that you won’t find anyplace else.
To the delight of sports enthusiasts everywhere, our shop carries: The Kentwood Dave & Buster’s has between 40 and 45 televisions, with the largest screen being 130 inches. According to Kerney, the store is a “middle of the road” prototype for the recently publicized, rapidly expanding company, and it features a sports bar more prominently than smaller ones elsewhere. During busy sports seasons, personnel will meet customers as they enter and show them to a comfortable viewing place. On Sundays during football season, the Lions and Packers will be all over the television.
There is no pizza on the menu. Kerney, describing the atmosphere as “upscale casual,” clarified that “we don’t do pitchers and we don’t do pizza.” There are no prices listed on the media or online menus, but based on feedback, it seems that beverages are around $5 to $10. The bar serves primarily domestic macro and import beers, with a notation to “ask about local selections” on the menu. Kerney said the dish was “quite inventive,” and he liked that it came in larger servings. Sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, salads, soups, pasta, ribs, wings, steaks, shrimp, and bar snacks are just some of the items available on the extensive menu.
Dave & Buster’s has a considerable abundance of parking, as befits a 1,440-person capacity building, thanks to its suburban commercial lot design that places it back from 28th Street. To make room for more cars, a chunk of the demolished Barnes & Noble was used as a parking lot.
This week, Dave & Buster’s will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The availability of certain times may shift as the need arises.
