“Devastating floods in 33 of Nigeria’s 36 states have killed more than 600 people and displaced over two million people, with climate change, hunger, conflict-induced displacement, and poverty worsening the situation,” according to the BBC. “The floods have occurred in 33 of Nigeria’s 36 states.”  The devastating effects that the floods have had on food production constitute a significant threat to the country and have the potential to bring about a catastrophic food catastrophe.

This danger has the potential to result in a severe scarcity of food supplies. In Nigeria, CARE International is providing financial assistance to low-income families, with a special emphasis on households in which women serve as the primary breadwinner.
