Dua Lipa's New 'Barbie' Single Dance the Night Away Out Now!

“Dance the Night,” the first song from the upcoming Barbie movie soundtrack, was released by Dua Lipa. Greta Gerwig, Barbie’s author, director, and executive producer, makes a cameo appearance in the very pink, sparkly music video accompanying it. The vocalist sashays over elaborate sets in the music video while dressed like the famed doll from the movie, which serves as the song’s inspiration. Additionally, the movie’s dancing scene is hinted at.

In addition to opening the musical portion of the live-action Barbie movie, “Don’t Stop Now”, singer Dua Lipa also plays a mermaid Barbie, as shown in the zany character posters unveiled last month. The film follows Margot Robbie’s doll protagonist as she experiences an existential crisis in the candy-coloured Barbie Land. She then travels to the real world, including many versions of Barbie and Ken.

While Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef, and Kingsley Ben-Adir play different versions of the toys, Ryan Gosling stars as the main character Ken. The film also stars Helen Mirren, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, and Emerald Fennell. Gerwig was invited to Dua Lipa’s At Your Service podcast last year to discuss the movie, which Gerwig felt would be a “career-ender” for her.

The script was written by Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach. “I think there’s something about starting from that place where it’s like, ‘Well, anything is possible!'” Gerwig said. Starting to compose it gave me vertigo-like symptoms. Where do you even begin? What would the narrative be? Gerwig acknowledged that the movie forced her outside of her comfort zone.
