Following the Fatal Collision, Statements from the Families of the Pilot and Meteorologist Were Shared

The two men’s families, who lost their loved ones in the Sky3 helicopter tragedy, released comments on Wednesday honoring their lives. On Tuesday, the Sky3 disaster along I-77 claimed the lives of pilot Chip Tayag and weatherman Jason Myers.

Kerry, Tayag’s wife, issued the following statement: I’ve never met somebody as loving and selfless as Chip. We have a love of a family because we both hail from large families. He always had a large, lovely smile on his face and was always smiling and cheerful. He was both my life’s love and my best friend. Despite how awfully permanent it feels, I know that our separation is only temporary since I know we will one day be reunited.

Family Myers issued the following statement: We would like to convey our sincere gratitude for the outpouring of support and love that our family has received in the form of texts, calls, meals, flowers, and, most importantly, prayers at this extremely difficult time following Jason’s death. We also send our condolences to Chip Tayag’s family.

Jason served as the “Good News” in the media, and everything he did was Christ-centered. At WBTV, he liked realizing his ambition. He taught all of us that our relationships with God and other people are what matter most in life. His devotion to his family was admirable.

Although we know exactly where Jason is—in the arms of Jesus—and that we will see him again, there is a gaping hole in our hearts that can only be filled by God’s peace. The family has put up a GoFundMe in lieu of flowers. Also accepting donations is St. Jude and Mercy Church.
