Former Bulldogs running back Todd Gurley racked up highlight after highlight during his time at the university. Even though Gurley hasn’t played football in over a year, he’s still actively involved in it, having taken on ownership of a minor professional league.

FCF announced Friday that Gurley has joined the FCF Beasts as a co-owner. Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters, and former WNBA star Renee Montgomery are all part of the ownership group that now includes the 2017 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Lynch, Peters, and Gurley make up the Beasts’ ownership group, which has been to 11 Pro Bowls and five All-Pro selections between them.

Martavis Bryant of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dentarrius Yon of Savannah State, and Quinn Porter of the St. Louis Rams make up the Beasts’ current roster.

Founded in 2017 is the Fan Controlled Football League. At the Pullman Yards in Atlanta, the league plays all of its games. Twitch streams the games and lets viewers vote on which plays the teams should run. Seven-on-seven action takes place on a 50-yard field in the games.

Michael Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, will play in the final week of the league season, the league announced this week.

Georgia signed Gurley, a highly-regarded North Carolina high school football player, in 2012. Gurley established himself as a star after rushing for 3,285 yards and 36 touchdowns in three seasons with the Bulldogs.

At Georgia, Gurley was a two-time All-SEC honoree and had the second-highest rushing yard total in school history for three consecutive seasons—he was later overtaken by Nick Chubb. With a minimum of 500 carries, Gurley also set the record for the most average yards per rush (6.44).

After his junior season, Gurley decided to declare for the NFL Draft and was selected by the St. Louis Rams as the 10th overall pick. Offensive Rookie of the Year honors went to Gurley after rushing for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns in St. Louis.

With 2,093 scrimmage yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 19 total touchdowns, Gurley won the Offensive Player of the Year award two years later.

Gurley has rushed 1,460 times for 6,082 yards and 67 touchdowns in six seasons in the NFL. There is no word yet on whether or not Gurley will retire.

Against the Shoulda Been Stars, Gurley’s Beasts return to action Saturday at 3 p.m.

Georgia Football Podcast: Anonymous Coach Brings Kirby Smart Into Jimbo Fisher-nick Saban Feud

Beginning of the show: Last week, the barbs between Alabama coach Nick Saban and Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher over the importance of NIL in recruiting held the attention of sports fans. Fans of the Bulldogs, meanwhile, were pleased that coach Kirby Smart avoided getting involved. Even so, an anonymous coach quoted by ESPN cited Smart as an explanation for why Fisher was so enraged by the allegations against him. On today’s show, I’ll go into more detail on that subject.

15-minute mark: My faith in college football — and the Southeastern Conference in particular — has been restored thanks to an audio clip from ESPN broadcaster Chris Fowler.

20-minute mark: Jeff Sentell, a DawgNation recruiting expert, joins the show.

40-minute mark: I take a look at other SEC headlines, including the announcement of a major transfer target.

End of show: As a thank you, I give out a Golden Shoe award and give out updates on the Gator Hater App and the Gator Hater Countdown.
