Los Angeles, CA – The city already had a bad reputation for killing rappers, and at least two more have been killed in the previous month. Latauriisha O’Brien, 32, known as “Half Ounce,” was found tragically murdered late Monday, according to police and his family. He is the latest of numerous rap notables to be killed in Los Angeles in the last two years. Officers responded to various calls of shots fired in the Koreatown district at about 11:30 a.m. and discovered a man who had been fatally shot in front of an apartment building.

The family of the dead guy verified to NBC Los Angeles that the victim was O’Brien, a father of three who worked at UPS while attending school. The medical examiner’s office in Los Angeles County also confirmed that O’Brien was the victim. An examination was scheduled for Tuesday, according to an office representative.

According to police sources, the inquiry is still in its early stages and no motive has been established. Investigators are looking for a man dressed in black who fled the crime scene on New Hampshire Avenue in a dark SUV.

Three weeks ago, rapper PnB Rock was shot and died during a failed heist at Roscoe’s Chicken ‘N Waffles in South Los Angeles. Three people have been detained and accused in connection with the Sept. 12 killing, including a 17-year-old boy and his father.

Drakeo the Ruler, actual name Darrell Caldwell, died in December after being stabbed during a fight behind the main stage at Banc of California Stadium during the Once Upon a Time in LA music festival. Pop Smoke, a rapper from Brooklyn, New York, whose true name was Bashar Barakah Jackson, was shot and died in a suspected house invasion in Los Angeles on Feb. 19, 2020, while on a business trip. In the case, four people were charged, two of whom were minors.

Nipsey Hussle, a Grammy-nominated rapper, was shot and killed outside his South Los Angeles apparel store in March 2019. Eric R. Holder Jr. was convicted guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Nipsey Hussle in July. It’s been 25 years since Notorious B.I.G. and Biggie Smalls were gunned down in a car-to-car shooting on March 9, 1997.

The rapper’s shooting, whose true name was Christopher Wallace, was never solved. It happened after a party at the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles’ Mid City district, which is thought to have culminated in a brewing conflict between East Coast and West Coast rap musicians.
