Harrison Joseph Bader (born June 3, 1994), nicknamed “Tots,” is an American Major League Baseball center fielder for the New York Yankees (MLB). He previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball. Bader, who was born and reared in Bronxville, New York, attended the University of Florida and played college baseball there.
He was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2015 MLB draught, and he made his MLB debut in 2017. Bader started center field for them for parts of six seasons and received a Gold Glove Award in 2021. In 2022, the Cardinals dealt Bader to the Yankees.

Bader was born in the town of Eastchester, New York, in the village of Bronxville. Louis Bader, Bader’s father, is Jewish, and Janice, Bader’s mother, is Italian (Sicilian). His parents are both natives of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. His father is Verizon’s lead attorney in New York. Sasha is his younger sister. Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio is his first cousin.
He began playing baseball when he was five years old, with his father giving him batting practice. As a child, he played shortstop in the Eastchester Little League, with his father continuing to throw him batting practice every evening.
Bader grew up a New York Yankee fan, with outfielder Roger Maris as his favorite player. Bader attended the Horace Mann School in the Bronx’s Riverdale section and played center field for the school’s baseball team. He batted.500 with a.783 slugging percentage as a senior. He was named to the Rawlings Northeast All-Region First Team, first-team all-state, first-team all-city, and first-team all-region in 2012. Bader was a member of the New York Grays, a travel baseball club, while in high school.
The St. Louis Cardinals selected Bader in the third round, 100th overall, in the 2015 Major League Baseball draught. He signed with the Cardinals, getting a $400,000 signing bonus, and made his professional debut with the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League’s State College Spikes, hitting two home runs in his first game. In July, the Cardinals assigned Bader to the Peoria Chiefs of the Class A Midwest League (MWL), where he finished the season 10th in the League with 9 home runs and 8th with a.505 slugging percentage in 206 at-bats.
He was named MWL Player of the Week for the week of August 24-30, batting.448 with two home runs, six RBIs, one double, and two triples in seven games. He batted.311/.368/.523 in 235 at-bats and 61 games between State College and Peoria, with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 32 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases. He was selected as a MiLB Organization All-Star in 2015.
Bader began the 2016 season with the Springfield Cardinals of the Class AA Texas League, where his.497 slugging percentage was ninth in the league and his 10 hits by a pitch ranked second in 318 at-bats. In April 2016, he had a hit streak that fell one game shy of tying the Springfield club record. Bader was chosen as a Texas League mid-season All-Star, and he recorded four hits in five at-bats including a double and a run scored in the All-Star Game.
On July 6, 2016, he was promoted to the Class AAA Memphis Redbirds. Baseball America ranked Bader 89th in their updated mid-season rankings for the first time in 2016. Bader batted.267 with 19 home runs and 58 RBIs in 465 at-bats across 131 games between Memphis and Springfield in 2016.
He was voted the Cardinals’ 2016 Minor League Player of the Year by MLB Pipeline, and he was named a MiLB 2016 Organization All-Star. Following the season, the Cardinals assigned Bader to the Arizona Fall League (AFL), where he batted.304/.349/.430 with 16 RBIs (5th in the league) in 79 at-bats. He was selected as an AFL 2016 Rising Star as well as an AFL 2016 All-Prospect Team member. Baseball America regarded him as the Cardinals’ eighth-best prospect. Bader was selected as the Cardinals’ 2017 Minor League Player of the Year following the season.
