On Wednesday, where can you get the finest view of the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting? It’s most likely from your couch. Mother Nature will not be cooperating much in terms of weather as New York City prepares to kick off the holiday season, delivering heavy rain and high gusty winds in the run-up to the big reveal – and then temperatures will drop quickly.

Rain arrives late Wednesday morning and will be heavy at times during the afternoon. The city’s major rainy phase is scheduled to end by 6 p.m. This will also be the day’s warmest and windiest phase, with temperatures possibly reaching the low 60s but wind gusts of up to 50 mph possible.

The worst of the winds are expected to hit Long Island, Connecticut, and the Jersey Shore, but gusts will also hit the city. Once the rain clears in the evening, presumably by 7 p.m., temperatures will drop swiftly, so the weather for spectators as the tree is lit will be significantly different from what those waiting earlier would experience. Wind chills will likely fall into the 30s due to the dry air and windy weather.
