For his role in a gunshot that took place on a motorway in northwest Indiana on New Year’s Eve, a man from Lake County, Indiana has been arrested on multiple criminal charges, including attempted murder. After receiving a report of a walk-in patient who had been shot on December 31 at approximately 6:45 p.m., Indiana State Police troopers were notified about the incident and dispatched to Munster Community Hospital.
After conversing with the victim, who was an adult male, state troopers were able to discover that the gunshot took place near Burr Street on Interstate 80/94. An examination by the ISP into the shooting found that the victim had been confronted by another individual while he was at a gas station on Burr Street at the time of the shooting.
Following a brief altercation, the victim got in his car and started driving west on Interstates 80 and 94 when he noticed a black vehicle following him. The person who challenged him was the one driving the vehicle at the time of the encounter.
According to the suspect’s statement to the police, the man drove up next to him as he was attempting to get away from the black vehicle. At that time, a male inside the suspect’s car fired a shot in the direction of the victim, striking him in the upper chest area.

After further inquiry, the ISP found a suspect who had been observed at the gas station along with a female getting into a black Ford passenger car. This suspect was the subject of the investigation that led them to the suspect. The woman who was found to be in a previous relationship with the victim of the shooting was also uncovered by the investigators who were looking into the case.
According to the ISP, the victim was able to correctly identify both people who were seen entering the black Ford. He was able to determine that the male suspect was Alantae Antwan Thornton and that he was 30 years old and from East Chicago, Indiana.
Troopers with the ISP looked into obtaining a warrant to arrest Thornton, and on Friday, they found him. According to the ISP, Thornton was arrested and taken into custody without any trouble at the Lake County Courthouse.
Bailey stated, “I would want to applaud all of the troopers, detectives, and CSI agents as well as the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office in the comprehensive investigation and subsequent arrest of this dangerous guy, and I look forward to justice being served for the victim in this case.”
