On March 18, 2022, Netflix debuted the first of eight episodes of the American reality show Is it cake. Each episode lasts for 40 minutes. Mikey Day, an actor, comedian, and writer best known for his appearances on Saturday Night Live, serves as the show’s host.
Every day objects such as ducks, wallets, and many more are transformed into edible works of art in this reality television series about talented cake artists. The cake stands carry a single cake, and the host Mikey Day asks the judges if it’s a cake when he poses the question. The series’ ultimate prize of $50,000 is up for grabs for the three remaining finalists who make it to the final episode.
For the most part, this series is based on the Viral TikTok Cake cutting fad in which cake makers show off cakes that look like everyday objects and viewers have to determine whether or not it’s a cake or not. As a result of the popularity of this trend on TikTok in 2020, Netflix has decided to turn it into a reality television series for its viewers.

Is It Cake? Season 1 Recap
The first season of the show follows the same formula, with a team of bakers tasked with producing cakes that resemble everyday objects and then tricking the judges into choosing between the real-life goods and the cake, to earn a large sum of money. If you’re worried that Cake would be monotonous, don’t be. The show follows a fresh set of chores in each episode, with inventive concepts and cameos by celebrities before concluding with hilarity.
Fast food cakes were replicated in the inaugural episode of the show, and the contestants were joined by celebrity judges who were as uninformed about the cake’s location on a cake stand as the viewers. Every contender on the show explains their baking journey and what drew them to participate in the competition. This is not a baking show, therefore it doesn’t focus much on the actual baking process, but rather on the appearance of the cake and how it might be a con for the audience and viewers.
