Morant was born to parents Tee and Jamie Morant in Dalzell, South Carolina. Jamie, his mother, played point guard in high school and college softball, and his father, who played basketball at Claflin University, was a high school classmate of Ray Allen.

Morant made his Murray State debut on November 10 against Brescia University of the NAIA, scoring 7 points and dishing out a team-high 11 assists in the Racers’ 118-61 triumph (NAIA).
