Jennifer Coolidge became the sixth recipient of the coveted Comedic Genius Award at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The award honors “actors who have made incomparable contributions to the comedy world, providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre.”
This year, Coolidge accepted the honor through a prerecorded video message. The annual MTV awards event was initially scheduled to run live, but it was instead pre-recorded because of the current WGA writers’ strike. “Thank you, MTV,” the actress said. “I appreciate you giving me this amazing Comedic Genius Award,” the recipient said.
Coolidge continued by mentioning the other comics who had previously won the prize, saying she was honored to be in their company. The White Lotus actress continued supporting the WGA writers’ strike. “Great writers are the foundation of almost all great humor.
As a proud member of the SAG (Screen Actors Guild), she stated, I stand here tonight before you side by side with my sisters and brothers from the WGA who are fighting for the rights of artists everywhere. As previously indicated, Coolidge is the most recent comedian to win the Comedic Genius Award. Since Will Ferrell received it for the first time in 2013, it has only been given out a few times.
