Ciampa honoured both the history of professional wrestling and his past.
On tonight’s “Raw,” Ciampa will face WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley. He wrote “#forharley” in a tweet earlier today, referring to Ciampa’s trainer, former United States Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race. However, Race was not Ciampa’s only allusion in his message.
This Saturday I’ll be meeting and greeting at #IconsofWrestling! It’s been a minute since I’ve been in Philly! @2300Arena pic.twitter.com/9F39g3aFfL

Just write “Tonight…(-_•)” Ciampa used some clever punctuation to make an emoji face that looks a lot like his friend Johnny Gargano, who used to be his bitter rival. Not only have Gargano and Ciampa won tag team gold together, but they are also responsible for a feud and a series of matches that have been called the “black and gold” high point of sports entertainment in “NXT.”
Gargano left WWE in December of last year. During an emotional goodbye speech to the Performance Center fans, NXT Superstar Grayson Waller attacked Gargano. Gargano has been vague about what will happen next. Gargano hasn’t said much about his plans outside of podcasts, meet-and-greets, and Twitch streams. Gargano recently talked about his longtime friend Alex Shelley in a taped message for Impact Wrestling. According to reports, the kind words for a friend were just that—a favour for a friend—and not the start of a bigger relationship with the company.
In a recent Starrcast panel with Kenny McIntosh, Gargano was very honest and open. It didn’t say much about Gargano’s future, but it was fun to think back on his time in “NXT.”
Now that Triple H is in charge of WWE’s creative direction, Carrion Kross and Dakota Kai have already surprised everyone by coming back to the company. The speed with which they were brought back shocked the world. Could Gargano be Triple H’s next big creative surprise? And if so, is he coming to help his old DIY partner? Or hinder him?
