Kelly Ripa has said that she was afraid of divorce from husband Mark Consuelos after their third child left for college, leaving them as empty-nesters. Kelly Ripa makes an unexpectedly open confession about the start of her marriage “It’s terrifying, thrilling, liberating, shocking… and peaceful,” Kelly said of living alone in a house with Mark after raising three children over their 26-year marriage.

“There were times when I thought to myself, ‘We’re going to be that couple: our third child goes to college, and we divorce because this is it.'” ‘But there was this other moment, where we walked to the beach alone for the first time since our honeymoon with cheese and a baguette,’ she told People, adding that she realized she finally had time to appreciate the sunset.

“So I think for us, it was ‘Oh, this new era of our lives is kind of amazing,'” she says. Mark and Kelly married in 1996, and the TV personality admitted that they were both too young to marry at the time, but they “fought for our marriage when it would have been easy to stop and throw in the towel.”

They met on the set of All My Children, when Kelly played Hayley Vaughan and her husband, Mateo Santos, portrayed her love interest. Kelly and Mark have been together for 26 years. They married a year after meeting in Las Vegas and have three children: Michael, 24, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 19.

They have been empty-nesters since their youngest graduated from the University of Michigan last year. In July, the mother of three described their most recent vacation, which involved rock climbing in Utah, which provided the perfect time to focus on their marriage. Fans were in awe of her achievement, which she tagged “couples therapy.”
