Teenager Kiely Rodni, who vanished in August after leaving a party, has been identified and her cause of death determined.

Multiple news outlets reported on Thursday that the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said its Coroners Division determined that the death of Kiely Mai Rodni was accidental.

In addition, their statement included, “Since the pathologist concluded that she drowned and there was no other evidence to suggest that she had been murdered, this verdict is based on that information. Our office will continue communicating with the family and reviewing any new leads that arise in this probe.”

“We urge the media and the public to respect the family’s privacy during this terrible time,” the NCSO said. After being asked for comment by PEOPLE, the NCSO’s spokesperson has yet to provide any information. At 12:30 a.m. on a Saturday in August, Rodni was last seen at a party close to Tahoe National Forest.

People magazine reported at the time that “more than 100 juveniles and young adults” had gathered the night before near the Prosser Family Campground, about 10 miles north of Truckee, for a party. Among those present was Kiely. The campground is situated on the western shore of the Prosser Creek Reservoir, above the reservoir itself.

Adventures With a Purpose, a volunteer organization, made the announcement on their Facebook page. A follow-up message from Adventures With Purpose explained that the car had been found submerged in water 14 feet deep in Prosser Reservoir. Her mother Lindsey Rodni-Nieman had remembered their last text conversation before the discovery.

According to her interview with ABC News, Kiely texted her that she planned to leave the party in 45 minutes and head “straight home.”

“I wished her well and assured her of my affection. Ultimately, she told her mother, “OK, mum, I love you too.” Rodni-Nieman stated to the media. Not once did she return. “I called her and sent her texts too, and she didn’t answer,” she said. When that happened, I realized there was a problem. Read more:
