In May 2021, more than 27 years after the murder of Nirvana vocalist Kurt Cobain, the FBI made public a 10-page file that contained letters from fans encouraging the agency to examine the death of Cobain as a probable case of homicide.
The letters were included in a file that was disclosed by the FBI. The FBI came to the conclusion that “We are unable to locate any violation of federal law within the investigative authority of the FBI.” Additionally, the FBI stated that “the majority of homicide/death investigations normally fall within the jurisdiction of state and local authorities.”
In 2014, the Seattle Police Department, which was in charge of the investigation into the music star’s death, did conduct a reexamination of the material that had been collected. During this process, the department disclosed a trove of photographs from the 1994 death scene that had never before been viewed by the public. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Cobain’s death led authorities to conclude that he took his own life.
In March 2016, further pictures were made public that reveal the shotgun that the police believe Kurt Cobain used to murder himself. Kurt Cobain’s medical wristband from a drug rehab clinic in Los Angeles can be seen on his arm in this picture.
Cobain checked out of the facility in Los Angeles a few days before coming to Seattle, which is where the Seattle Police Department believes he took his own life. The container of shotgun rounds was located at the scene of the crime. The SPD claims that Kurt Cobain used one of the rounds from this package to shoot himself in the head.
The soaring stardom that Kurt Cobain had done, in a sense, “burn away.” Cobain’s image was plastered on everything from T-shirts and magazine covers to the highest pinnacle of the Billboard charts in the early 1990s. The lead singer of Nirvana was blazing hot.
On April 8, 1994, however, his lifeless corpse was found inside his home in Seattle by an electrician, putting an end to the fire. At the age of 27, the grunge legend passed away after what appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Nirvana was over.
