Michael Misick was elected Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2003 after previously serving as Chief Minister of the Turks and Caicos Islands. They were married in front of 300 guests in a grandiose ceremony, followed by a three-week honeymoon in Jerusalem, Bali, and Dubai.
McCoy held the title “First Lady of Turks & Caicos” during their marriage. Premier Misick issued a statement in August 2008 announcing his divorce from McCoy. Misick resigned in March 2009 after an inquiry discovered “obvious indicators of misconduct” involving the sale of public land to fund his private investments. He escaped Turks and Caicos and was apprehended in Brazil before being deported back to the islands to stand trial.
McCoy is a Christian convert. The “Queen Mother of Ghana” assert McCoy has referred to herself inaccurately as “Queen Mother of Ghana” on numerous occasions, including a 2019 visit on The Wendy Williams Show. Her assertions, as well as the uncritical reporting of American media outlets, were extensively criticized on Ghanaian social media, with journalist Nana Aba Anamoah accusing her of “ignorance” and pointing out that the title does not exist because Ghana is a republic rather than a monarchy.
McCoy was dubbed “queen mommy” in September 2019 at a Los Angeles nightclub. She was given the title by Yahweh ben Yahweh, a self-proclaimed “imperial ruler” and former member of an Orange County, Florida hip hop group. “To have such an accolade conferred upon me by my own African people is a testimonial to my hard work and character,” McCoy said. Yahweh, also known as “The Imperial Majesty King Yahweh The Holy Ghost,” had purchased the title from a chief of Kwanyako in Ghana’s Central Region. It is usual practice in Ghana to bestow honorary titles on foreigners. McCoy herself visited Kwanyako in July 2021, promising to fund a vocational center for women as well as a local performance troupe.
