O’Leary was born in 1974 in Allerton, a “prosperous suburb” of Liverpool, before moving to Heswall, Wirral, with his parents and two younger siblings.

When he met his mother, Susan, a nurse, his father, John O’Leary, was a college lecturer. O’Leary’s father became a solicitor, working for the Liverpool company Rex Makin. According to John O’Leary, his kid is “far more serious” than his other children. “He was quite studious, and he always had his face in a book,” he told The Times. “He was a wonderful youngster who was earnest and quiet.”

Before becoming a chartered accountant, O’Leary studied econometrics and quantitative economics at the London School of Economics (LSE). According to Yahoo!, Truss studied economics, philosophy, and politics at Merton College in Oxford. Truss and O’Leary, both Conservative Party members, met in their early twenties at the 1997 Conservative Party conference in Blackpool.

In a 2019 interview with YOU Magazine, Truss said that on their first date, he went O’Leary ice skating and hurt his ankle. Three years later, the couple married and had two daughters, Frances and Liberty. According to Truss, the adolescent females recently assisted her in her campaign to become Tory leader. “My eldest daughter is a member of the digital team.” “She has a computer GSCE, so she’s assisting with that,” Truss added. “My younger daughter was also present, giving basic political counsel.”

Truss rarely talks or posts about her family on social media. She did, however, upload a photo of her hubby on Valentine’s Day in 2019, captioning it “the love of my life.” According to Mallika Basu, a close family friend and cuisine writer, the pair “are a fantastic team” and “both eager cooks and very good cooks.” She makes delicious roasts, and he makes a mean curry.”
