Some of the most violent housing complexes in New York City are where this family grew up. The years following his parents’ divorce saw him spending time in both New Orleans, where his father’s family was from, and Richmond, California, where his mother’s side of the family was from.
At Booker T. Washington and Warren Easton high schools, he was an avid basketball player who earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Houston. Merrit Junior College in California’s Oakland was where he began his business studies as a freshman.
Career
Choosing just two or three of Master P’s many vocations would be nearly impossible. Many of his sources of income, including his work as an entrepreneur, rapper, and occasional actor have contributed to his net worth.
After the death of his grandfather, he received $10,000 while still living in Oakland. He opened a record shop called No Limit Records with the money he had saved. In 1990, he decided to expand the store into a record label after learning about the preferences of his customers. In 1990, he released “Mind of a Psychopath,” a cassette-only EP. His two brothers joined a supergroup called The Real Untouchables (often abbreviated to TRU) for this release. Kevin, Master P’s other brother, was assassinated in New Orleans the same year.
Since the release of his debut album, Get Away Clean, in 1991, Master P has released and produced music regularly. In the underground gangsta rap scene, he rose to prominence after releasing a few more solo albums and collaborating with TRU. It was 1995 when he decided to relocate the label back to New Orleans, where he was still building his empire. Throughout his career, he’s put out a wide range of albums, each of which has had varying levels of success.

His most famous song, “Make ‘Em Say Uhh!” is featured on the album Ghetto D, which was released during this period. Ghetto D went triple platinum after selling over 265,000 copies in its first week of release. MP Da Last Don was a huge hit in 1998. Over 400,000 copies of the album were sold in its first week on the Billboard charts, making it even more popular than Ghetto D. In addition to the album, Master P also released a film to accompany it. His 10th studio album, Game Face, was released in 2001. In 2004, he put out his eleventh album, “Eleven.”
Several years after Hurricane Katrina, Master P and his son Lil Romeo founded Guitar Music, an independent record label, and released an album dedicated to the victims. The two collaborated on an album in 2007 that went on to sell 32,000 copies worldwide. A mixtape was released every year after that by Master P. He continued to collaborate, record, and tour. In January 2017, he released his sixth mixtape with the No Limit Boys, titled We All We Got.
Other Pursuits
When Master P was in his twenties, he built a well-diversified business empire that included several hip-hop labels and clothing lines as well as management companies, a high-end travel agency, a film production company, and a video game company.
He has had a variety of business interests, but No Limit Records, which pioneered the Southern Rap sound and sold over 80 million records worldwide, is still his most notable and likely most successful endeavor. Master P’s business empire raked in more than $160 million in profits in 1998. Master P’s first book, “Guaranteed Success,” was released in 2007.

His role as Romeo’s father on the Nickelodeon children’s sitcom “Romeo!” has made him a household name in the entertainment industry. Since P’s real-life son Lil Romeo played Romeo, this was especially appropriate. A reality show centered on Master P and his family, titled Master P’s Family Empire, was announced in 2015. The show aired on Reelz for ten episodes throughout one season.
