A Talkeetna resident was killed in a tanker-truck crash on Thursday at Trapper Creek on the Parks Highway. An area of the highway is expected to be closed until Thursday night while fuel spilled during the collision is cleaned up.
An Alaska State Troopers dispatch claims that a methane tanker traveling south on the highway early on Thursday reportedly lost control while navigating a turn near to highway Mile 133.5. It collided with a northbound fuel truck being operated by 67-year-old David Hope.
According to the broadcast, troopers and emergency services arrived at the location as soon as the collision was reported at around 1:30 a.m. Hope was immediately pronounced dead. The driver of the methane tanker, according to the troopers, was unharmed.

According to the troopers, Hope’s family has been notified, and his body has been delivered to the Anchorage office of the state medical examiner. The facts surrounding the incident, including whether the weather played a part, were still unknown as of Thursday afternoon, according to Austin McDaniel, a spokesperson for the troopers. Anchorage and a large portion of the Mat-Su Borough were hit hard by a third severe winter storm on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
According to the authorities, the methane tanker was empty when it crashed. But a significant amount of petrol leaked from the other tanker. According to the troopers, the relevant businesses and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation are coordinating the cleanup of the scene. The highway is expected to remain closed between Mile 127 and 133.5 until early Thursday evening. Updates will be published on 511.alaska.gov, the state’s website for road conditions.
