Sanditon Season 3 Release Date, Cast & More Updates!

Sanditon Season 3

Masterpiece Last month, PBS’s Sanditon series returned to our screens after a lengthy break and nearly-canceled episode. Since the show was based on an unfinished novel by Jane Austen, it was initially not renewed by ITV, the British broadcaster, after its first season. PBS announced a surprising extension of Sanditon’s U.S. run in May of 2021 after the show gained a devoted following in the United States.

Season 2 ended its run on Sunday, April 24, with a shocking climax that left many fans stunned after a long and bumpy path to the small screen. Having lost Sidney Parker to Theo James’s character, Charlotte (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) was thrust into a new love triangle with Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) and Colonel Lennox (James Spader) (Tom Weston-Jones). In a surprising twist, the season finale finished with Charlotte announcing her engagement to a completely different man, setting up plenty of love drama for the upcoming season.

Season 3 information has been revealed thus far.

Season 3 Won’t Premiere Until 2023.

Sanditon fans will have to wait a bit longer this time around, as the new season is expected to broadcast on PBS Masterpiece in early 2023.

Sanditon Season 3 Has Already Been Filmed.

Yes, that’s what I meant. Season 3 of Sanditon is not only confirmed, but filming has already finished, so the show’s fans won’t have to wait for another anxiety break.

Seasons 2 and 3 were both renewed at the same time when Sanditon was saved by PBS last year. Between July and December of 2021, Newsweek reports that the two seasons were filmed in succession.

While speaking on a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, Young dropped a bombshell regarding what fans may anticipate from Charlotte in season 3. specifically, he claimed: “there are components in Season 2’s Episode 1 that pay off in Season 3’s final episode.” Furthermore, Young confirmed that he was talking about Charlotte’s arc in a Salon interview, which you can read here.

“Remember where we first meet her in Season 2,” Young advised. “We come across a young woman who is striving to move forward. Despite her best efforts, she is dragged back into Sanditon by her family. So that’s the focus of these two seasons.

Everything she says to Colbourne after the first episode about what she thinks an independent spirit should look like, that exchange is extremely critical to Charlotte’s growth throughout these two seasons..” Charlotte’s position in the season 2 premiere to the season 3 finale will be visible in a year, he said, adding that people will be able to discern the connections between them. Intriguing!

Some Cast Members Won’t Be Returning.

It’s safe to presume that most of your favorite characters will be back for season 3 because the seasons were filmed back-to-back. The absence of Colonel Lennox and—perhaps most shockingly—Esther Babbington from the cast has been announced (Charlotte Spencer).

In the end, “I think Esther, where we leave her at the end of Season 2, I think she’s received everything she’s ever desired,” Young said to Decider. ‘I guess it’s the conclusion of Esther’s tale for me, because she’s happy, married, and has a child that she loves.’

Charlotte and Colbourne’s romance will still be a major part of the show.

There is hope for shippers, so don’t give up! Even though showrunner Justin Young revealed in an interview with Salon that Charlotte’s engagement is a “big impediment,” her relationship with Colbourne is still very much in the running. “When we meet him again at the beginning of Season 3, he’ll be slightly reset,” Young said of Colbourne.

According to an interview with Decider, Young also stated that the two are still very much in love. How does she feel about Colbourne going into the third season?… His affection for her is undeniable. That much is obvious to all of us. She’s engaged to Ralph, so how will things work out now?”
