Early Life
DeAndre Cortez Way, better known as Soulja Boy, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 28, 1990. In Atlanta, Georgia, he discovered rap music when he was six years old. He relocated to Batesville, Mississippi, when he was fourteen years old. To inspire his son to pursue music professionally, his father built a recording studio inside the house where they all lived. SoundClick was launched in November 2005 by Soulja Boy. He opened accounts on YouTube and MySpace after they received positive reviews.
He recorded this in March of 2007 “Crank That (Soulja Boy) and released “Unsigned and Still Major: Da Album Before da Album,” his first solo album, independently. In addition to the “Crank That” dance video, he made a low-budget video to promote it. Toward the end of May 2007, “After hearing his song “Crank That” on the radio, Soulja Boy decided to sign with Interscope Records. When “Crank That” hit number one in September of 2007, it stayed there for seven straight weeks. Soulja was nominated for a Grammy for the song.
As of this writing, Souljaboytellem.com has been certified platinum by the RIAA, his first major-label album released in October of 2007. He released his second album, “SouljaBoyTellem,” 14 months later.

Record Label
In 2004, while still signed to Interscope, Way established his record label, Stacks on Deck Entertainment (SODMG). For more than two decades, he has signed numerous artists to the label. In a statement released on May 30, 2016, Way stated that all SODMG artists had been terminated. Way re-signed Lil 100 in 2019 and signed 24hr. from Atlanta.
Controversies
It was in early February 2009 that Soulja Boy and Bow Wow challenged each other to a high-end car race. At the time, both rappers were seen driving Lamborghinis. Soulja Boy added fuel to the fire by claiming that Bow Wow’s car was rented. When Bow Wow proved he was the rightful owner of his car, a Twitter war ensued. Both rappers sent each other diss songs within a matter of days. Bow Wow received a message from Soulja Boy saying, “F*ck Bow Wow. ” Soulja Boy received a song from Bow Wow called “What I Think About You” as a gift. “Ignorant Shit” was released in 2016 as a result of a reconciliation between the two rappers.
Chief Keef was threatened with death by Soulja Boy on Facebook in mid-April 2013. If you see Soulja Boy, call him and tell him he’s coming for you armed with a gun, he posted Keef’s phone number on social media. Eventually, Keef told Soulja Boy that he was in London after Soulja Boy kept posting. His social media accounts and email were said to have been hacked, which Soulja Boy claimed to be the case. Since then, the two have come to an understanding.
Legal Issues
The way was arrested on one count of obstruction, a misdemeanor, on October 7, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia, for fleeing police after they ordered him to stop filming a video in an abandoned house. The bond for the rapper’s release was set at $550.
Personal Life
In June 2008, Ice-T told Way to “eat a dick” on DJ Cisco’s mixtape Urban Legend. He also said that Way was “killing hip-hop” and that his song “Crank That” was “garbage” compared to the work of Rakim, Das EFX, Big Daddy Kane, and Ice Cube. The two then sent each other videos over the Internet. Kanye West stood up for Way by saying that the younger artist made something new and different for hip-hop. In 2010, an episode of The Boondocks made fun of the fight.
Way’s house was broken into on December 30, 2008, and he was robbed and hurt. The first reports from the scene said that the thieves were six men with AK-47s who were wearing masks. The next day, though, a video of two masked men claiming to be the only ones who did the crime showed up on the internet. In January 2009, Soulja Boy talked to MTV News about the night. He said he got home from an album release party very late at night and was recording songs with friends when the robbers came in with guns pointed at them. He said the thieves kicked in the door and put an AK-47 to the head of his friend.
Way’s younger brother, Deion Jenkins, died in a car accident on the night of March 22, 2011.
In 2020, Soulja Boy got rid of all the tattoos on his face so he could get roles in movies and TV shows. When he was 16, he got his first tattoo on his face, which made his mother very unhappy.
