Travis Pastrana is in the Hospital After a Base-Jumping Accident While Filming Gymkhana

A week ago, Travis Pastrana announced that he would be appearing in a new Gymkhana film with his all-wheel-drive 1983 Subaru GL wagon. The film is scheduled to be released later this year. It would appear that the car is capable of handling the high-speed stunts just well; yet, a base-jumping mishap has resulted in Pastrana being hospitalized.

As a result of the accident, the head of Nitro Circus and a member of the Hoonigan squad reported on Instagram that he sustained several hip fractures as well as broken L5 vertebrae. In a video that was shared on social media, Pastrana commented on the filming of Gymkhana by saying, “It was fantastic until it wasn’t, man.”

“I have a feeling that even Ken is going to get pumped up about this one. At speeds greater than one hundred kilometers per hour, the Subaru wagon’s back bumper was only millimeters from being struck.” However, the act of driving itself was not what got Pastrana into trouble.

“Had a solid attempt at doing a base jump, but [Pastrana’s wife] Lyn-Z [Adams] wasn’t happy with how it turned up. After base jumping, I had always said that I wouldn’t do it again because I had lost several friends there. Because of a number of poor choices, what should have been a straightforward base jump turned into a challenge for the player.

Pastrana said, “Finally got into a predicament where the options were to either do a 180-degree turn to the right or land among the trees. In retrospect, I should have attempted to land among the trees.” It would appear that he is already moving, and it is clear that he retains feeling in the lower part of his body.

According to Pastrana, the physician reassured him that he would recover well and that the injury would not be “far worse” than it was previously. However, that does not really tell much because the extreme sports athlete has a long history of injuries, both those that have been televised and those that have not been.

Even though Pastrana is already talking normally and socializing online, The Drive will keep you updated as more information is made public concerning his status. However, at the moment, he is doing quite great. You can be sure that he is in an excruciating amount of pain, though.
