San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are a professional football team that plays in the National Football Conference. The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the most prominent NFL clubs since their inception in 1946. The San Francisco 49ers have the third-most Super Bowl titles, behind only the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers.
They have won 19 division titles in the NFC West. Their most recent came in 2012. They went all the way to Super Bowl 47 that year after also winning the NFC title.
On February 3, 2013, they faced the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl 47. A lot was riding on this matchup, as it would be the only time in history that two brothers would serve as opposing head coaches. The 49ers were coached by Jim Harbaugh, while John Harbaugh was in charge of the Ravens.
There was a 34-minute delay in the “Harbaugh Bowl” game because of a power outage in the New Orleans Superdome.
After the Ravens jumped out to a 28-6 lead before a lengthy delay, the 49ers mounted a furious comeback, scoring 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to five points at 28-23. The final score was 34–31, with the Ravens emerging victorious. The 49ers made the playoffs the following year, but haven’t been back since.
Why Did Trey Sermon Divorce The San Francisco 49ers?
The NFL’s final roster cut deadline is a difficult time for many teams. There are 53 open spots, so the general manager and coaching staff will have to make some tough calls. To make room for undrafted rookie Jordan Mason, the San Francisco 49ers had to cut Trey Sermon, a third-round pick in 2021.
It’s never simple to let go of a guy you picked a year ago. It’s a lot harder to choose that guy once you’ve moved ahead. Even 49ers GM John Lynch had to admit that Mason had looked better than Sermon in training camp. This, in the words of the GM, is the “bottom line” (according to the San Francisco Chronicle).
At the end of the day, Lynch said, “J.P. Mason simply played too brilliantly.” And here we had thought he had strengthened our team. We plucked this kid out of Georgia Tech as a backup plan. We were powerless to argue that he deserved a spot on the team after it was all said and done.
And the numbers speak for themselves: Mason and Sermon combined for 19 touches in the 49ers’ preseason games. There was a 39-yard gain for Sermon in those touches. Does Mason sound like a good option? More than double Sermon’s total, he rushed for 94 yards. A better team would be bolstered by the signing of J.P. Mason, it seemed evident.
In any case, Trey Sermon’s NFL career is far from over. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson reportedly considered offering him a contract throughout training camp. After the 49ers released the sermon, the Eagles quickly snatched it up. Here’s crossing our fingers that the running back finds a long-term home in the NFL.
