This July, Tuca & Bertie will return for Season 3. Lisa Hanawalt, the creator of popular television programmes including BoJack Horseman, is the mind behind the animated sitcom for adults. The show has experienced some ups and downs since the start of its first season in 2019, including an abrupt cancellation at Netflix and an unexpected rebirth at Adult Swim.
But Tuca & Bertie has consistently shown that they’re more than just a programme about two unrelated bird-women in their 30s who have no idea how to act like adults.
Tuca & Bertie, starring Ali Wong and Tiffany Haddish, is not afraid to tackle friendship-based topics or even difficult subjects like female representation, alcoholism, and sexual abuse. The programme has not only grown in popularity with viewers over time, but it has also received praise from reviewers and accolades.
Season 3 has more to offer after being named one of Vox’s “5 Best TV Shows of May 2019” and winning the Outstanding Achievement in Writing prize for one of their episodes, “The Jelly Lakes.”

Tuca and Bertie Season 3 Release Date
Tuca & Bertie’s third season will finally hit the airways on July 10, 2022, at midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim, and will then debut on HBO Max the following day. This is similar to how their second season ended. However, you might have noticed that HBO Max and Adult Swim don’t have Season 1. There’s a good reason why Season 1 of Tuca & Bertie is only accessible on Netflix right now.
The series was abruptly cancelled in July 2019 after one season, not long after Season 1 on Netflix debuted on May 3, 2019. On social media, this immediately caused controversy, with messages criticising the unexpected revelation.
But the show’s devoted viewers weren’t happy about the cancellation, and Netflix received a backlash. People started hashtags like #SaveTucaAndBertie and #RenewTucaAndBertie on Twitter within 24 hours of the cancellation, and each hashtag received more than 10,000 tweets. Fans even started a renewal petition on Change.org, which received 3,600 signatures in just one day.
The cancellation sparked debate over Netflix’s algorithm and against the company for terminating a show less than three months after its debut. But in May 2020, a new home for Tuca & Bertie is found when Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block decides to intervene and order a second season of the cartoon.
On June 13, 2021, Adult Swim officially aired Season 2. Season 2 of HBO Max has just been made accessible on their platform. One of the “Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2021,” according to Indiewire, was the show’s resurrection.

Tuca and Bertie Season 3 Cast
Haddish portrays the rowdy Tuca the Toucan in a brilliantly humorous role. The witty Wong, who you may have seen in her comedy shows like Ali Wong: Baby Cobra, plays her songbird counterpart Bertie. The focus of the programme is not limited to Tuca and Bertie, though.
The other quirky characters add to the show’s intrigue. Tallulah, the affluent aunt of Tuca (Jennifer Lewis), Speckle, Bertie’s considerably more successful architect lover (Steven Yeun), Pastry Pete, the proprietor of a nearby bakery (Reggie Watts), and Holland, Bertie’s boss are all there (Richard E. Grant). And what’s this? And they’re all birds.
