Two Guys Charged With Arson and Mutilation in Woman’s Death Near Antioch Trail
A woman’s badly charred body was discovered last week beside a path in Antioch, and two men will be arraigned on felony charges related to her killing on Thursday. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday that two men, ages 32 and 39, had been charged with arson and mutilation in connection with the death of 25-year-old Mykaella Sharlman.
Earlier this week, police determined that Sharlman was the victim. In addition, they stated that two suspects or persons of interest had been apprehended in connection with the murder, but did not reveal the suspects’ identities.
On October 17 at around 5:30 a.m., police said the corpse was discovered on the paved municipal trail between Gentrytown Drive and Contra Loma Boulevard, north of Lopez Drive. The fire was put out and a homicide inquiry was initiated after police and arson investigators arrived. Read more: Father Must Row the Atlantic Alone Following His Daughter’s Tragic Death
The next day, Antioch police posted photos of jewelry the woman had been seen wearing to positively identify her as the slain woman.
The district attorney’s office has filed two aggravated charges against Montalvo as a result of his earlier conviction for first-degree residential burglary. The arraignment for both suspects is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez.
