Where is Ramon Vega Now?

After spending a season at Creteil, a team in a lower division of French football, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega announced his retirement from the sport in 2004. Beginning his professional playing career with Grasshopper Club Zurich in his home country of Switzerland, he went on to make approximately 400 first-team appearances across many countries, including Cagliari in Italy and Celtic in Scotland.

The majority of his trophies came during his time with Grasshoppers, including the Swiss Cup and three titles in the Swiss Super League. He also won the Swiss Super League three times. In addition, he won the League Cup when playing for Spurs, and he led Celtic to the domestic treble during his stay with the club.

On the international stage, Vega represented Switzerland on the national team, where he earned a total of 23 caps and was a member of the team that competed in the UEFA European Championships in 1996. After having already completed coursework toward a business degree during the early stages of his football career, Vega transitioned into the world of finance after his retirement from the sport. He first became a partner at an asset management company before going into business for himself.

His company, VSAM (Vega Swiss Asset Management), made him millions of dollars and at one point managed more than one billion dollars for customers, primarily in the trade of currencies and bonds. The company went out of business in 2020, in part because of the losses associated with Brexit.

Vega has continued to show a keen interest in the world of football and has acted in an advisory position for a variety of football groups and clubs located all over the globe. It was in December 2020 when he was given the position of head of investing at the digital securities startup Solid block.
