Grace Hightower is a philanthropist and socialite who spent more than 20 years with Robert De Niro, a legend in Hollywood. 2019 saw the completion of the couple’s divorce, but previous years have seen turmoil, and legal disputes haunt their relationship.
Hightower was raised in a household of nine children born in 1955 in Kilmichael, Mississippi. After receiving her degree, she worked as a flight attendant and a model before starting her own coffee company, Grace Hightower & Coffees of Rwanda, which purchases coffee beans from Rwandan farmers.
When Hightower was a waitress at the Mr. Chow restaurant in London in 1987, she stumbled into De Niro. When they first met, they clicked and started dating. De Niro later converted to Islam and wed Hightower in a traditional Muslim wedding in 1997.
In 1998, the couple gave birth to a son they named Elliott. In 2011, they later welcomed a daughter through surrogacy named Helen Grace. However, there were many difficulties in their marriage. After only two years of marriage, De Niro filed for divorce in 1999, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

In 2004, the couple reconciled and repeated their vows, but suspicions of infidelity and strife persisted in their union. De Niro re-filed for divorce from Hightower in 2018, and the processes were concluded in 2019. Hightower reportedly demanded half of De Niro’s $500 million fortune and accused him of being emotionally abusive during their bitter divorce.

Hightower sued De Niro in 2020, alleging that he had reduced her monthly credit card allowance from $100,000 to $50,000. The drama continued. In a countersuit, De Niro asserted that Hightower had mismanaged their finances and owed him $6 million while disputing the accusations.
