The much-anticipated film adaptation of Barbie will finally be released in theatres on July 21, 2023, and on Friday, the first teaser trailer for the movie was posted on the film’s official Instagram profile (Dec. 16). Fans with keen eyes have noticed that the official Instagram account for the film follows 15 people involved in the film, including Dua Lipa, despite the fact that it is already established that Margot Robbie will play the role of the iconic blonde doll and that Ryan Gosling will play the role of her handsome partner Ken.
Fans with sharp eyes who noticed anything started making assumptions about how the singer of “Levitating” would be involved in the movie, with the most widely held belief being that she will be contributing a song to Barbie‘s soundtrack. However, neither Lipa nor the film confirmed any sort of partnership, and the Instagram account swiftly shut them down as a pop artist while they were in the middle of the sum.

Greta Gerwig, who will be directing the film, collaborated with Noah Baumbach, who created the screenplay. Robbie and Gosling aren’t the only stars in the film; also starring are Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and America Ferrera. The ensemble cast is rather impressive.
The new teaser, which is only 75 seconds long, pays homage to Stanley Kubrick’s groundbreaking science fiction movie from 1968 titled “2001: A Space Odyssey.” A narrator’s voice can be heard saying, “Since the dawn of time, since the first little girl ever existed, there have been… dolls,” while desert sunrise scenes play out in the background while a group of young girls plays with their dolls in the arid landscape.
Our narrator continues, “But the dolls were always and forever baby dolls… until,” at which point we see the first glimpse of the towering Barbie posing in white sunglasses and a striped one-piece swimsuit, flipping down her shades to give girls a wink. The scene ends with our narrator saying, “But the dolls were always and forever baby dolls.”
