Transforming youth skills for the future

UN General Assembly established 15 July 2014 as World Youth Skills Day to recognize the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, dignified labor, and entrepreneurial endeavors. World Youth Skills Day has been a unique chance for young people, technical and vocational education and training institutions (TVET)

Enterprises, employers and workers organizations, policy-makers, and development partners to engage in discourse since its inception in 2012.
This year’s World Youth Skills Day occurs in the context of a wide range of concerns, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, poverty, inequality, rapid technological development, and demographic shift.

Because of a variety of issues, disadvantaged young women and girls as well as young people from low-income families and marginalized ethnic or cultural groups are still barred from many of society’s more enlightening opportunities. As a result of the epidemic, various changes in the workplace have been expedited, raising questions about the skills and abilities that will be in demand once the crisis is over.

To address these difficulties, TVET is well-positioned to assist reduce entry barriers to the workplace, ensure that skills earned are recognized and validated, and provide training opportunities for people who are not in employment, education, or training (OES) (NEET). When it comes to the 2030 Agenda’s Decade of Action, the full participation of young people in global processes is essential.

YOUTH Matters: Celebrating Skills for the Future

Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore, in conjunction with UNESCO-UNEVOC, UNEVOC Centers, and local and regional partners, is organizing YOUth matters: Celebrating talents for the future.
The WYSD Asia-Pacific 2022 celebrations will begin with the main symposium.

The first plenary session will focus on the challenges and solutions that institutions confront in ensuring that TVET is demand-driven and future-focused. – a. Regional leaders, policy-makers, practitioners, and academics from throughout the country will be among the speakers at this year’s conference on postsecondary education and training (TVET).

Transforming Youth Skills for the Future

This year’s World Youth Skills Day will draw attention to the Transforming Education Summit, which will take place in September 2022, and the work being done under its “Learning and skills for life, work and sustainable development” Thematic Action Track. An important worldwide event for the future of millions of young people, the summit is being organized by, with, and for young people.

World Youth Skills Day

The global event “Transforming young skills for the future” is co-organized by Portugal and Sri Lanka Permanent Missions to the United Nations, together with UNESCO, ILO, and the Office of the Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth.

To better understand the impact of current problems on young people around the world and how they can quickly adjust to an ever-changing world, this conference will bring together youth, governments, UN agencies, the commercial sector, and civil society organizations.

TVET Youth Voices

More than 100 students from TVET institutions throughout the world were invited by WYSD Asia-Pacific to give their thoughts on what skills will be most in demand in the future, and how policymakers might help. Temasek Polytechnic arranged the event with the help of UNESCO-UNEVOC, UNEVOC Centers, and other regional and local organizations.

The Importance of Youth Skills

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), UNESCO-UNEVOC, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH worked on a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of young skills for the future.

Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurial skills and attitudes must be taught to future generations because of the growing youth population, rising unemployment in many countries, and changes in the labor market and economy as a result of technology improvements.

UNESCO–UNEVOC has developed a practical guide on how to introduce entrepreneurial learning where it is lacking and how to mainstream it in vocational training to help TVET institutions form the entrepreneurial values that are important for young people’s lives, economic development, and sustainable society.
