Early Life
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson was born on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California, to Pentecostal preachers Mary and Maurice. She was raised in a conservative Christian household. Perry went around the country from age 3 to 11 due to her parents’ church-building efforts, before settling back in Santa Barbara.
There are two siblings in her family. As a child, Perry was only permitted to listen to religious music, particularly gospel, and discovered pop music by stealing CDs from his pals. Perry began vocal training at the age of nine because her sister was also taking voice lessons at the time and she wished to emulate her. She also sang in her parents’ church.

Career Beginnings
At the age of 15, Perry finished her General Educational Development (GED) requirements and quit school to pursue a career in music. She relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to work with rock musicians Steven Thomas and Jennifer Knapp after catching their attention.
Her debut album, a gospel song titled “Katy Hudson,” was released in 2001 following her signing with Red Hill Records. Despite the album receiving favourable reviews from critics, it was a commercial failure, selling barely 200 copies, according to estimates.
Perry made the switch from gospel music to secular pop when she relocated to Los Angeles at the age of 17. She stayed here up until 2004 when she joined The Island Def Jam Music Group-affiliated label Java. Perry joined Columbia Records after Java was released, where she worked on her album before the label released it in 2006.
Breakthrough
Perry joined Capitol Records in April 2007 and began working on the songs for her second album, “One of the Boys,” with producer Dr Luke. A digital EP of Perry’s song “Ur So Gay” was published in November 2007 to promote the album, but Perry’s career and ascent to stardom did not truly begin until the release of her single “I Kissed a Girl” in April 2008. The Hello Katy Tour, Perry’s first headliner global tour, ran from January to November 2009.
Continued Success
“California Gurls,” the first single from her upcoming album “Teenage Dream,” was released on May 7, 2010, after Perry appeared on “American Idol” as a guest judge. In June of that year, it peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number one.
Despite a negative reception from critics, “Teenage Dream” debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 on August 24, 2010. California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework, E.T., and Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) all topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry the first female artist to reach five number-one Billboard Hot 100 songs from one album. The only other musician to have done so was Michael Jackson at the time.
As of January 5, 2012, Perry had sold 37.6 million pieces of digital music in the United States, making her the sixth best-selling digital artist there. Perry’s California Dream Tour, which lasted from February 2011 to January 2012 and brought in $59.5 million worldwide, was her second headlining tour. Katy Perry: Part of Me, an autobiographical documentary, was released by Paramount Pictures on July 5, 2012, and it made $32.7 million in box office revenue worldwide.
After its release on October 18, 2013, her fourth studio album, “Prism,” sold over 4 million copies by August of this year. As part of her third tour to support this album, Perry sold nearly 2 million tickets globally and earned $204.3 million in ticket sales during the Prismatic World Tour. Super Bowl XLIX halftime performance on February 1, 2015, was watched by 114.4 million people, which was more than the total number of people who tuned in to watch the game.
Perry announced the launch of her own Capitol Records record label, Metamorphosis Music, later renamed Unsub Records, on June 17, 2014. On June 9, 2017, she released her fifth album, “Witness,” for which she embarked on the Witness: The Tour, which ran from September 2017 to August 2018.

Outside of Music
Perry has been in several television programmes, including “Saturday Night Live,” “The Simpsons,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Raising Hope,” in addition to her music career. In 2011, she made her acting debut in the animated family movie “The Smurfs,” where she played Smurfette. In 2013, she returned to her role in “The Smurfs 2.”

Real Estate
For $14.5 million, Katy agreed to buy an 8.5-acre property featuring a 1920s home from the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese in 2014. For the three sisters who were living there at the time, the agreement was to include $10 million in cash and $4.5 million in the form of another property. Sadly, a few months later those nuns who had been living at the home for years made a separate agreement to sell the property to a businesswoman named Dana Hollister for a little bit more money, which would have been paid to their order directly.
