She helped him recover and wrote a memoir with him called “In an Instant: A Family’s Journey of Love and Healing“.

On August 18, 1961, Woodruff was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Real estate managers Robert Norman Woodruff Jr. and Frances Ann Dawson were his parents.

In 1979, Woodruff obtained his diploma from the exclusive Cranbrook Kingswood school located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. In 1983, he received his B.A. from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. He played lacrosse there and finished second all-time at Colgate with 184 points.
