Connie Francis was a popular female vocalist in the United States during the late 1950s and early 1960s. She was born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero, but she is better known by her stage name, Connie Francis. Francis was also an actress.
She was the first child to be born to Italian-American parents, George and Ida Franconero and was born in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey. Connie Francis is known as the “Ironbound Queen.” Since she was just four years old, Francis can still vividly recall how her father inspired her to perform regularly as a singer and accordion player at various talent contests, pageants, and other neighborhood events.
Connie Francis received her high school education at Newark Arts High School. Francis was the top student in the class of 1955 at Belleville High School, from which she graduated as a salutatorian. She moved to Belleville, New Jersey, with her family.
