On the June 15 memorial edition of “Deadliest Catch,” crew members received a text message informing them that Nick McGlashan, who worked on the Summer Bay, had died unexpectedly. The 33-year-old was the Summer Bay’s deck boss, reporting to Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski.
The Sun got copies of McGlashan’s autopsy report, which revealed that the fisherman died of a heroin overdose. According to the outlet, McGlashan “overdosed in a Nashville hotel restroom wearing a grey shirt and grey underpants after consuming a lethal concoction of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl.” He was in Tennessee visiting friends at the time.
Following his passing, a Discovery spokesman told People, “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Nick’s loved ones during this sad time.” Nick came from a long history of crabbers and was well-known for his knowledge. Even under the most trying circumstances, he maintained a sharp sense of humor. All those who knew him will miss him greatly.”
Wichrowski reacts to the news on the June 15 episode by stating, “Oh my gosh.” According to People, Captain Hillstrand remarked, “Wow. Nick is gone in an instant.” Captain Sig Hansen explained how he learned of McGlashan’s death, saying, “I’ve got text messages and words flying around that Nick McGlashan passed dead.” Nick has been on Summer Bay and pretty much every boat Bill [Wichrowski] has been on recently. Bill, you know, treated him like a family member.”
He is thought to have two children. The “Deadliest Catch” actor is “believed to be a father of two,” according to The Sun. He first appeared on the Discovery show in 2013 and has since appeared in over 78 episodes. McGlashan was suspended from Season 13 of the show, according to the Sun, after being “blamed on his drug use.”
According to his Discovery bio, he was a 7th generation Alaskan fisherman. His uncle worked aboard the F/V Deep Sea in 1947, which is claimed to be the first boat to fish in the crab industry. Wild Bill was a “longtime friend” of Nick’s father, Bruce.

Mahlon Reyes, a deckhand on the series, died of a heart attack in August 2020, according to USA Today.
