Robert Downey, Jr. was born in New York City on April 4, 1965. Robert Downey Sr., his paternal grandfather, is a writer, actor, and filmmaker. A well-known actress, Elsie Ann Downey was the mother of actor Robert Downey Jr. Allyson, Downey Jr.’s elder sister is a close family friend. Greenwich Village was home to the family. “Ally McBeal” cast him a week after being released from prison. It earned him the Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film Golden Globe. In 2000, Downey was arrested while intoxicated and with cocaine and Valium in his possession. Police found Downey barefoot in Culver City in April of that year.
