The Great Season 3 Release Date: Cast & Plot!

‘The Great,’ created by Tony McNamara, is a comedy-drama series based on the life of Catherine the Great, Russia’s last reigning Empress. Despite being partially based on a historical individual, the plot shows a fictitious interpretation of true events. Catherine’s stormy marriage to Peter III occupies a substantial chunk of the show’s plot.

The satirical comedy sitcom premiered on May 15, 2020. The show’s two seasons have received excellent feedback from critics for their lighthearted approach to historical events and tempo. The fascinating main performances of Elle Fanning (Catherine the Great) and Nicholas Hoult (Peter III of Russia) are important contributors to the series’ popularity. So, if you’ve already finished the show’s second season and are itching for more, you’re not alone. With that said, let us share what we know about a possible season 3!

The Great Season 3 Release Date

Season 2 of ‘The Great’ launched on Hulu on November 19, 2021, with all 10 episodes available at the same time. Each episode lasts between 45 and 55 minutes. Here’s the deal with the third installment of the show. Hulu is yet to make a decision on the future of this charming historical fiction drama.

However, considering the show’s popularity, we are really optimistic. Furthermore, the creators are optimistic about continuing the show beyond its second season. Marian Macgowan, the executive producer, announced during the 2020 Winter TCA, “We initially pitched six seasons.” So we believe there is enough material to last us till she [Catherine] is an old woman.”

Following that, at the Summer TCA Press Tour in 2021, McNamara announced that he was already working on the series’ third edition. Although he preferred to take things one step at a time, he was optimistic about the show’s future.

In fact, he revealed that he is constantly on the hunt for new components that might be incorporated into the plot to keep things interesting. Season 2 was reportedly shot from November 2020 to July 2021. As a result, if the comedy-drama is renewed shortly and goes into production by the end of 2021 or early 2022, we can expect ‘The Great’ season 3 to arrive in Q4 2022.

Who Could Be In The Great Season 3 Cast?

If the series is renewed for a third season, we may expect to see most of the performers reprise their roles. This means that Elle Fanning (Catherine the Great), Nicholas Hoult (Peter III of Russia), Phoebe Fox (Merial), Sacha Dhawan (Count Orlo), Charity Wakefield (Georgina Dymova), and Gwilym Lee (Grigor Dymov) might all return.

Because Adam Godley (Archbishop “Archie”), Douglas Hodge (General Velementov), Belinda Bromilow (Aunt Elizabeth), and Miles Jupp (Maxim the Painter) play roles important to the plot, they may return if the program is revived. Joanna, Catherine’s mother, is played by Gillian Anderson in Season 2.

However, considering Joanna’s terrible yet uncomfortable death, she is unlikely to appear again. However, we can expect to see some new faces as interesting characters may be introduced in a possible season 3.

What Can The Great Season 3 Plot Be About?

In the season 2 finale, the tension between Peter and Catherine approaches a boiling point. Peter is certain that his wife will want to kill him after learning that Catherine knows how Joanna died. And, while Catherine appears dangerously composed for someone who has discovered that her husband slept with her mother, resulting in the latter’s death, we know that she is not okay with any of it.

Weapons are pulled during Maria and Maxim’s wedding as spectators expect the royal couple’s fight to escalate. However, things take an unexpected turn when both Catherine and Peter relax. Later that night, Catherine enters Peter’s chamber and repeatedly stabs him in the back.

She immediately sobs since she never intended to kill him in the first place. Peter, it turns out, only knew her too well and had installed his doppelganger (fortunately, that guy is not dead either). Catherine and Peter hug and then look away in the last seconds of the season.

Season 3 will most likely pick up where season 2 leaves off. Joanna’s death and the circumstances surrounding it will undoubtedly continue to cast a pall on Catherine and Peter’s marriage. And, while all of this is going on at the royal palace, the Civil War is still going on. As a result, we may anticipate that these issues will be solved if the show returns for a third round.
