The Wheel of Time Season 2 Release Date & More Details!

Season 2 of Amazon’s epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, will be back for more action in the second half of the season.

The Wheel of Time was renewed for a second season before the first had even premiered on Prime Video, so we’ve known for a long time that we’d be getting another helping.

Season 1 of The Wheel of Time made a big impression when it premiered, and it quickly rose to the top of Prime Video’s most-watched list (although it has since been eclipsed by Reacher).

We can now look forward to seeing more of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy saga come to life on our screens after the second season was completed.

The Wheel of Time Season 2 Release Date

Season 2 of The Wheel of Time has yet to be announced by Amazon as of this writing.

Since the series’ filming was completed only in mid-May, we may expect it to take some time until it becomes available on Prime Video.

The Wheel of Time season 2 could potentially be affected by the arrival of another major fantasy series on Prime Video later this year.

Beginning Friday, September 2, Amazon’s highly anticipated Lord of the Rings TV series, The Rings of Power, will begin streaming weekly on Prime Video, with new episodes airing each week until the first eight-episode season airs.

Amazon is unlikely to release two fantasy epics at the same time to avoid competing with either show. As a result, we’re forecasting that the second season of The Wheel of Time won’t premiere until at least November 2022.

The Wheel of Time Season 2 Cast

Season 2 of The Wheel of Time will witness the return of most of the original cast, except for one notable change.

Lan Mandragoran, Rand author, Perrin Aybara, Egwene alert, and Nynaeve al’Mera will all be back for the second season, as you would anticipate.

Mat Cauthon, the last remaining villager suspected of being the Dragon Reborn, is the most significant change. Barney Harris, who played Mat in the first season, will not be returning for the second (reasons for the recast have not been revealed).

Mat will be replaced by Dónal Finn in Season 2. Dónal has already appeared in The Witcher and Cursed, so he has a fair amount of fantasy experience.

In addition to Dónal Finn’s arrival, the show has added several new cast members. Elayne Trakand, a powerful channeler of the Green Ajah, is played by Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander), and Aviendha, a Maiden of the Spear from Aiel, is played by Ayoola Smart (Smother, Killing Eve).

Actress Meera Syal (Yesterday, The Kumars) and actress Natasha O’KEEFE are also on board, but their respective roles have not yet been revealed.

While we don’t yet know which character will be returning in season 2, showrunner Rafe Judkins has announced that another fan favorite will be returning as well. Season 1 ended with Padan Fain stabbing Local to death, but showrunner Rafe Judkins indicated in an interview with EW(opens in new tab) that the character will return. Unfortunately for some of the other characters, his confirmation did come with an unsettling warning.

There is no such thing as Loial’s death. Judkins confirmed that he is still alive and shooting in Prague. There will be real deaths for characters who don’t perish in the books, so I wanted people to be on their toes.

To keep 2,000 series regulars for numerous seasons, we must do so.” I want folks to be emotionally prepared for what’s to come. People’s emotional readiness may be aided by the possibility that Local has vanished, but that wasn’t enough for me. My favorite, he continued.

Celia Mendes-Jones, a newcomer to the show, will appear in multiple episodes of the upcoming season, we learned later. As reported by Variety (opens in new tab) in a casting announcement for another Amazon project, they’ve joined the cast of Fallout.

What Will happen in The Wheel of Time Season 2?

It wasn’t long after the first season’s conclusion that Rand and Moiraine had slipped away in pursuit of The Eye of the World and met the Dark One. Meanwhile, the remainder of the gang fought alongside Fal Dara’s warriors in a ferocious struggle against the Dark One’s army.

As a result of the help of a totem that Moiraine had given him, Rand was finally able to defeat the Dark One. Afraid of what may happen now that he is connected to the One Power, he told Moiraine (who has been cut off from the One Power by the Dark One) to tell his friends he had died.

In addition to dealing with the consequences of this pivotal decision, Season 2 will likely go deeper into its activities of Mat and introduce viewers to the Seanchan army, which will be arriving from across the sea.

Plot specifics are few at the moment, but in February 2022, The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins revealed a few major elements on the Empire Spoiler Special podcast(opens in new tab) (via Dragonmount.com(opens in new tab)).

For starters, The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn, the second and third books in Robert Jordan’s epic narrative, will serve as the basis for Season 2 of The Wheel of Time. Even though the eight-episode storyline won’t perfectly match the books, each character’s journey will be woven together to progress.

How Many Episodes of The Wheel of Time Season 2 Will there be?
