Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau split with his longtime caddie before Thursday’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Tim Tucker, who carried DeChambeau’s bag for each of his eight PGA Tour wins, including last year’s RMC and the 2020 U.S. Open, is no longer on the job.
Before the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Bryson DeChambeau and Tim Tucker parted ways. DeChambeau’s camp said, “Bryson and Tim are close friends and will stay such.” They’ve decided to part ways. Bryson and Tim wish each other well.
DeChambeau said the break was temporary. They’ve split and reunited. Ben Schomin, a Cobra rep, fills DeChambeau’s bag. Tucker bagged for DeChambeau throughout practice and Wednesday’s pro-am. DeChambeau is known for his huge frame, booming drives, and methodical, mad-scientist approach to golf, but controversy has followed him, most notably his spat with Brooks Koepka.

Like every relationship, this one ran its time. “There wasn’t one problem. It ended. They had ups and downs, like every caddie-player relationship. They’ll always be there for each other.”
Tucker has bagged DeChambeau’s eight PGA Tour wins. The duo momentarily parted up in 2017, then reunited. Tucker and DeChambeau’s breakup is unexplained. Golfers and caddies often separate ways. Tiger Woods has gone through many caddies, proving that even the best players need a change.
This split is different. Tucker played practice rounds and Wednesday’s pro-am with DeChambeau. If the two had discussed splitting up, do you think Tucker would have gone to the tournament? Given how picky DeChambeau is about his golf game, he never planned to lose his caddy the night before a tournament.
This seems like a spur-of-the-moment breakup by DeChambeau or Tucker. We’ll hopefully learn what’s up here soon. Koepka acted like a hungry cheetah following the announcement. He tweeted Thursday to mock his rival.
