NFL Career
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Brown in the 1st round of the 2010 NFL Draft, and he has played his entire career with them. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and twice named to the NFL’s All-Star squad during his NFL career. In 2014, Brown was the AFC’s Co-Player of the Year and the NFL’s Leading Reception Yardage Leader.
In 2014 and 2015, he led the NFL in receptions and the AFC in receiving touchdowns. To his credit, Brown is the only NFL player to have at least five catches for at least fifty yards in 35 straight games, as well as to have a season-high 1,000-yard return and receiving yardage total. He is also the only NFL player to have at least 125 receptions in each of the last two years. One of just two players with at least 5,000 receiving yards over three years, the other being Calvin Johnson.
Since 2010, Antonio has been a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 2019, he played for a limited period for the Oakland Raiders. Before the start of the season, he was fined $215,000 by the Oakland Raiders for arguing with the team’s general manager.
The one-year deal with New England Patriots was signed on September 9 he was released by the Raiders. He was scheduled to play for the Patriots in Week 2 of the NFL season. The Patriots terminated Antonio on September 20 after he was accused of sexual assault.
Antonio said that he would retire from the NFL during the 2020 offseason. For violating the NFL’s conduct code, he was suspended for eight weeks of the 2020 season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Antonio to a one-year deal in October 2020. Former teammate Tom Brady, who recently joined the Buccaneers, is said to have been a major factor in Antonio’s selection. He also coached Antonio at Pittsburgh under Bruce Arians. On February 7, 2021, the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl.
Antonio ran off the field in the middle of the third quarter in week 17 of the 2021 season, removing his jersey, shoulder pads, and shirt. In the end, he was kicked from the team.
Contracts and Controversy
Antonio signed a three-year, $1.288 million contract with the Steelers in June 2010 after being picked. They came to an agreement in July 2012 on a $42.5 million contract that would last for five years.
Antonio Brown signed a four-year, $68 million contract deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in February 2017. Until Odell Beckham Jr. signed a contract worth $19 million starting in 2018, he was the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. As of March 2019, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a restructured three-year $50 million contract. Antonio should have received a $30 million signing bonus if all went according to plan.
In August and September of 2019, Antonio had several verbal disagreements with the Oakland Raiders’ management team. To make matters worse, on September 7, the Oakland Raiders revealed that they were going to cut Brown and cancel his $30 million contract. Soon after Antonio announced his $15 million one-year deal with the Patriots, it was revealed that none of that money was guaranteed to him. So, if he was harmed after just one game, he would have made a huge error. Was this part of the original plan? Was this Antonio’s ruse to join Tom Brady’s final season in the NFL after being released from a low-prospect team? The future will tell.
Time proved it. Antonio was released from the Patriots on September 20, 2019, two weeks after essentially dumping a $30 million contract down the toilet. It was Sept. 23 when he had to pay the first $5 million of his $9 million Patriots signing bonus. The $4 million second instalment was due on January 15th. A $1 million basic salary and $500,000 in-game roster bonuses, both of which he almost probably forfeited, were on the table for him. Additionally, if Antionio “does any conduct that fundamentally damages public regard for, or is critically critical of, the Club’s ownership and coaches, his signing bonus may be revoked,” as stated in his contract. As of this writing, it isn’t clear if his release on sexual assault charges will cancel the $9 million. Just $158,333 will be Antonio’s total earnings for the 2019 NBA season if he doesn’t get the $9 million signing bonus he was promised.
How Does Al Gore Have a Net Worth of $300 Million?
As a one-year contract with a base salary of $1 million and $1.5 million in performance-based bonuses when Antonio joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in October 2020.
Antonio signed a one-year contract extension with the Buccaneers in April 2021. Including a $2 million signing bonus, $916,000 in base pay, and $3.1 million guaranteed, this deal could have been worth a total of $6.5 million. When Antonio stormed off the field in January 2022, he lost bonuses worth an estimated $1 million.
Career Earnings
NFL star Antonio Brown has made $77 million in his entire career. Throughout three seasons, he was paid $1.288 million by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Following the success of his first season, he made $450,000 in his second. Antonio signed a five-year, $42 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012, bringing his salary for the year to $9 million. Without his numerous controversies, he would have earned more than $100 million in his career.
